2021 BC/Yukon Virtual Science Fair

In the midst of COVID-19, our West Kootenay Science Fair is joining other science fairs across BC and the Yukon in a fully-virtual science fair. This is to ensure that you and every student across our province and territory have an opportunity to compete safely in a science fair this year.
The BC/Yukon Virtual Science Fair will take place April 6 to 11, 2021

The Science Fair will look quite a bit different this year, so here's an overview of what to expect.

Students in Grades 4 to 12 are invited to register for the 2021 BC/Yukon Virtual Science Fair. Registration will take place between January 15 and March 5.

What's different?

The registration site will look different, as we've adapted things to move online
Parents/guardians will be able to pay a $15 registration fee directly from the Consent & Release Form

Project Submission
Project Submission will take place between February 1 and March 5. Since this is a fully-digital fair, you’ll need to think about your project a little bit differently.

What's different?

You will be asked to submit a combination of video, written material and supplementary images this year to help judges understand your project
You can continue working on your project and submit supplementary materials until April 1 (optional)
You will also be invited to post a summary of your project publicly by April 1 (optional)
You will be asked to provide a Zoom link (instructions below) for a possible interview with judges during the week of April 6 to 11

Judging of science fair projects will occur in two rounds this year.
During the period March 13 to 21, 2021, judges will review your Project Submission behind the scenes and provide feedback.
Some students will be invited to participate in an interview with judges during the week of April 6-11.

What's different?

Participants will be judged behind the scenes based on their Project Submission materials
Some students will be invited to present to 3 or 4 judges at one time via Zoom
Students will need visual aids that can be presented via videoconference for their interview

Awards Announcements
An Awards Ceremony will take place on April 14, 2021, where we will announce the winners of special awards from our sponsors, BC/Yukon Virtual Science Fair medal recipients, and finalists who have been selected to represent their region at the virtual Canada-Wide Science Fair!

What's different?

The awards ceremony will be held virtually
